Brimstone and Smoking Lands Guide: Resource Farm, Fountain Puzzle, and Desert Mouth Maze

Written by X-Gamer on Jun 26, 2026

Quick answer

  • Brimstone is a resource interaction around gas vents in southern Deadfire Mountain, north of Demeniss.
  • Smoking Lands Ruins is the fountain puzzle: burn away vegetation, rotate pillars, and feed both water spouts into the center.
  • Smoking Lands Desert Mouth is a separate sun-and-moon slab maze. Leave the already-active southern slab alone and light every symbol on the central device.

“Smoking Lands puzzle” is too vague to be useful on its own. The region holds a Brimstone farming interaction and at least two different puzzle routes. Start by deciding whether you need crafting material, the ruined fountain, or the celestial maze. The solutions do not share the same mechanics.

How to farm Brimstone

Travel to southern Deadfire Mountain, north of Demeniss, and use the central Abyss Cresset as your anchor. The resource comes from the fuming vents around this area rather than from a conventional ore node.

  1. Locate the active gas vents around the central area.
  2. Seal every vent except one with Healing Force Palm.
  3. Hold Nature’s Snare on the final open vent for roughly five to six seconds.
  4. Wait for the gold glow or blocking effect, then cancel the skill so the Brimstone drops cleanly.
  5. Collect the resource before reopening the route.

Current guides report roughly 16 to 20 Brimstone per visit. Fast-traveling away and returning can reset the fumes. Brimstoneback Crabs are another source, but the vent route is easier to repeat deliberately.

Smoking Lands fountain puzzle

The fountain ruins are not the slab maze. Clear the vegetation around the fountain first. Blinding Flash combined with Focus Light works, and fire arrows are another practical option.

  1. Burn the growth that blocks the fountain mechanism and nearby sightlines.
  2. Inspect the relevant pillars and use the sword interaction to rotate them.
  3. Watch the water channels rather than the pillar decoration.
  4. Set both spouts so water reaches the central fountain.
  5. Activate the completed ruin to receive the Abyss Artifact and unlock the fast-travel point.

Desert Mouth sun-and-moon maze

The Desert Mouth challenge is spread through the gorge. Its central device shows which celestial symbols are active. The southern slab begins active; turning it off creates extra work, so leave it alone.

  1. Visit the central mechanism and note the unlit symbols.
  2. Move through the gorge and flip the corresponding sun or moon slabs.
  3. Return to the center periodically instead of assuming every nearby slab belongs to the same symbol.
  4. Stop when all symbols on the central device are lit.
  5. Collect the Abyss Artifact and activate the fast-travel point.

This maze also contributes to the broader Maze Pathfinder progress. That is useful context if you are deciding whether to solve it now or return during a larger cleanup route.

Fast troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause Fix
No Brimstone drops More than one gas vent remains open or Nature’s Snare was released early Seal all but one and hold until the gold cue appears.
Fountain stays dry One pillar feeds water away from the center Trace each water spout separately and rotate in small steps.
Maze is one symbol short The southern starting slab was toggled off or one gorge branch was missed Restore the southern slab and compare the central device with each branch.

Location note: Some guides use “Fuming Lands” for the same broader area. This page keeps the three search intents separate. Checked June 22, 2026.
