Quick answer
- There are five principal witches you meet through regional questlines, plus White Crow as the final unlock. That is why some location lists say five and others say six.
- The first NPC or incident you find is often only the quest trigger. The witch’s actual hideout can be in a different part of the region.
- Finish the four required witch questlines and bring their Witch Tokens to the Wayward Woods tree hut to reach White Crow.
The cleanest way to track witches is by progression order, not by map distance. Several quests begin with a stranded traveler, a child, or a broken bridge, then lead to a hidden cave or lake later. Marking only the hideout can leave the starting condition unresolved.
Witch locations and unlock triggers
| Witch | How the route begins | Hideout or meeting place |
|---|---|---|
| Sylvia | Chapter 3 sealed-letter and Hermit Witch route | Shadow’s Whisper Cave beneath Three Saints’ Falls, Hernand |
| Elowen | Chapter 5 quest The Missing Seal | Witchwoods, Hernand |
| Bari | Help the shivering person southeast of Wayward Woods and light the fire | Crimson Lake, south of Silver Wolf Mountain |
| Lyselia | Rescue the person hanging from the broken bridge near Beighen or Kingshield | Cave around Serpent Marsh and Jijeong Temple, Demeniss |
| Areciel | Give a coin to the child near Tommaso Fork Posthouse | Cliffs west of World’s Navel and Urdavah |
| White Crow | Complete the principal witch questlines and insert four Witch Tokens | Tree hut in Wayward Woods |
Why White Crow is counted differently
IGN’s practical list centers on the five witches found through direct regional routes. Other completion guides include White Crow, bringing the useful total to six. White Crow is not an ordinary first-contact location: she is the capstone unlocked after the token sequence. For a player trying to finish every witch quest, six is the more useful count.
Do not confuse the trigger with the hideout
- Bari: the shivering person and fire interaction start the route; Crimson Lake is where the witch thread develops.
- Lyselia: the hanging victim at the broken bridge is the clue; the cave near Serpent Marsh is the destination.
- Areciel: the child near Tommaso Fork Posthouse opens the lead; the high cliffs near World’s Navel hold the hideout.
- White Crow: reaching Wayward Woods early does not bypass the Witch Token requirement.
What witches unlock
Witch routes matter beyond quest completion. They connect to Abyss Gear crafting, sockets, embedding, and extraction. The wider chain also leads into Sanctum rewards. Completion guides associate White Crow’s nearby chest with the Icewing Plate Cloak and the completed Sanctum sequence with Lightbringer.
Recommended completion order
- Finish Sylvia and Elowen when their chapter routes naturally introduce them.
- Pick up Bari, Lyselia, and Areciel while clearing their regions, making sure each trigger is complete before riding to the hideout.
- Keep the Witch Tokens rather than treating them as ordinary inventory clutter.
- Return to the Wayward Woods tree hut after the four required token routes are complete.
- Use the final unlock as the start of a Sanctum cleanup route, not the end of the system.
If a witch is missing
- Check chapter progress for Sylvia and Elowen.
- Return to the original trigger NPC or incident; discovering the cave alone may not advance the quest.
- Look for an unresolved rescue or coin interaction in the region.
- For White Crow, count completed Witch Tokens rather than discovered hideouts.
Completion note: This guide uses six as the practical total and identifies White Crow as a final unlock. Checked against four current location and quest references on June 22, 2026.
